You control the feed or the feed controls you.

This isn’t a LinkedIn-bashing article. In fact, the points here apply to any social media platform.

LinkedIn’s algorithm is designed to feed you more of what you engage with. The more you read, like, or follow content related to a specific topic or connect with people with similar interests, the more you’ll be shown the same type of content.

At first, this feels engaging. But over time, it creates an illusion:

That everyone is using the same tool, product, or idea—as if that’s the only thing that exists.

It’s definitely not.

Think of it like investing. Just as you wouldn’t put all your money into a single stock, don’t invest all your attention in one narrow stream of thought.

Avoid the trap of only liking or following content that confirms what you already believe or work with.

Diversify your feed. Broaden your exposure to different perspectives, industries, and technologies—even if they seem unrelated to your current role or product.

Staying aware of global trends, competitors, and emerging technologies helps you anticipate what’s next—not just ride the current wave.

Yes, it’s good to go deep on topics you care about. But if you only consume content from similar sources, you eventually get stuck in a whirlpool of biased opinions, and that can cloud your judgment—or even cause unnecessary anxiety.

Take AI, for example.

Lately, almost every social feed is filled with talk about how AI is getting smarter, replacing jobs, and redefining industries. While there’s truth in some of it, too much of the same messaging can start to affect your peace of mind. You begin to worry. You start to fear the unknown.

To break free from that spiral:

  • Follow a few people you disagree with.
  • Join a group outside your domain.
  • Read posts from industries you’ve never worked in.

You’ll be surprised how much cross-pollination benefits your thinking.

Also, consider turning off notifications. That ‘ding’ shouldn’t dictate when you pause your life to check what others are doing.

So don’t let LinkedIn become your echo chamber.

Make the algorithm work for you – not the other way around.

I’m Ganesh

Welcome to my opinionated blog.

I’ve been around tech, teams, and change long enough to have a few strong opinions. Here they are — raw, real, and maybe a little uncomfortable.

Thoughts and opinions are my own and don’t represent the companies I work for.
